Should I find out the sex of my baby?

There are so many things to think about throughout your pregnancy - it is such an exciting and overwhelming time with so much to plan and organise! 

But one of the main things you look forward to is knowing the gender of your baby. 
The news you are so desperate to find out can be revealed at your anomaly scan (around 18-20 weeks) or of course if you are super patient you don't need to find out at all until of course your little one is born! 

With both my pregnancies I found out the sex of my baby, but I find that most people prefer to wait and be surprised - which I think is brilliant if you have the patience and self restraint to not be tempted into saying 'yes' when asked at your scan. However there should be no pressure towards us mothers about their decision on when they decide to find out the gender of their own baby - there are so many reasons why mothers would choose either option. 

I personally chose to find out the sex of both my babies, a decision I don’t regret! There are a lot of reasons why I wanted to find out the genders - the one main reason is that I am super impatient and when the offer was there to find out I just could not resist! Planning is a huge deal to me, so I was very excited to buy outfits for both my baby's and receive beautiful knitted blankets and clothing in either pink or blue. Then of course imagining how I was going to decorate the nursery - the colour scheme, frames, ornaments that I would use. 

Now of course I know that there are plenty of gender-neutral clothing and furniture you can use instead if you did choose not to find out. However finding out the gender of my baby was a big deal to me because I felt like once I did know, that baby automatically had it's own little identity. During my first pregnancy I would often lie down imagining what my little boy would look like, what hobbies he would take part in and what incredible things he would do throughout his life. Daydreaming about how close I would be to my little boy and what sort of relationship we would have - would he be playful and boisterous? Or quite shy and sensitive? Me and my husband would often lie in bed discussing what our little boy would be named, how we would raise him and guide him through life. I am now currently 25 weeks pregnant with my little girl and my son, Arthur is so excited to meet his little sister and we often talk about what he would get up to with her! To me that is all just as special as waiting to find out. 

Having said that of course to some mothers it may not appeal to them at all finding out so early in their pregnancy and the thought of waiting till the big day excites them even more with the bigger element of surprise involved. As I have already stated there are so many gender-neutral clothing and gifts available now that you can still get everything prepared without actually knowing. 

It is all down to each and every mothers own preference and what is right for them during their journey.
